Welcome

Welcome
We are delighted to invite you to the “Live Well, Die Well” Alongside Inaugural Annual Conference, Hong Kong’s first-ever conference focusing on LGBTQIA+ end-of-life topics. This milestone builds on the significant progress made in Hong Kong’s end-of-life care, such as advancements in hospice services, advance medical directives, and the option to die in place. While these efforts have improved the quality of death for many, the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals remain largely unaddressed.
LGBTQIA+ individuals face distinct challenges at the end of life. The lack of legal recognition for their relationships often results in chosen partners being excluded from critical decisions or even funerals. Societal discrimination, health disparities, and disenfranchised grief further prevent many from sharing their authentic selves and accessing professional support during this vulnerable time. Addressing these barriers is essential for creating a society that values dignity and equity for all.
We are grateful for the support of the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) and proud to partner with the School of Nursing at HKU as a co-organizer of this conference. Together, we aim to explore groundbreaking topics, including Hong Kong-specific statistics on LGBTQIA+ end-of-life needs, advance contracts, and disenfranchised grief. This conference is not only about raising awareness but also about equipping professionals with the tools and understanding to provide truly inclusive care.
Through collaboration and shared expertise, this conference aspires to inspire meaningful change across disciplines, uniting healthcare, legal, social work, and mental health professionals. By working together, we can ensure that everyone in Hong Kong, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation or family composition, is empowered to live well and die well.
Yours sincerely,
